A three-week music-filled retreat in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, Cannon Music Camp offers the most comprehensive course of musical instruction in the Southeast, with intensive college preparatory work in performance and music theory. Campers participate in daily ensemble rehearsals and music theory classes in an atmosphere that elevates everyone's musicianship. Appalachian State University Martha Guy Summer Institute:

MGSI is a unique summer opportunity at Appalachian State University that takes place July 8-July 28, 2018. Current JUNIORS are eligible to apply, where they will gain an immeasurable amount of business knowledge and experience. The program contains two weeks of classroom instruction, an entrepreneurial project, outdoor courses, local activities, and travel. The cost is $1,800 plus a meal plan of $350. Need based scholarships are available.
Unlike most summer opportunities, MGSI combines a residential experience with out of state travel. Following two weeks on campus at Appalachian State University, the program concludes with a week of travel to various business and cultural/entertainment sites. Each MGSI class is small. Twenty-four students are selected. The group size provides a much more intimate, personal experience for each participant.It is quite affordable considering the extensive travel, excursions and activities; tuition is $1,900 plus a meal plan fee of $350.

As a Student Leader, you will participate in an eight-week paid internship at a local nonprofit organization where you will learn first-hand about the needs of your community and the critical role nonprofits play. In addition, you will learn valuable civic, social and business leadership skills. Each Student Leader will attend the Student Leaders Summit held in Washington, D.C. where you will learn how government, business and the nonprofit sector work together to address critical community needs.

NC Community Development Initiative Youth Leadership Program:
Application period begins in March. This is a five-week, paid internship in the nonprofit sector for rising seniors. The application period and materials for the program are available in March. Interns have completed projects such as coordinating a community health fair, assisting with creating a business plan, creating youth programs for children, building community gardens, developing community outreach campaigns and assisting with the documentation of the organization’s work in the community (via photos, video, testimonials, reports, etc.). Communication Summer Camp (COM Camp) introduces rising high school juniors and seniors, to college-level instruction in presentation speaking, media production, and broadcast techniques. This is an intensive five-day workshop designed for rising junior and senior high school students interested in learning about television production-behind, and in front of, the camera. College instructors will provide individual training to a limited class of 20 students in a broadcast-quality studio on the NCSU campus. NC State University Shelton Challenge:
Sign up 30 days before the start of each session. This is a six-day summer experience through NC State University for rising 9th-12th graders with a minimum GPA of 3.0 who are motivated to learn how to lead others. Youth Legislative Assembly:
The YLA is scheduled for April 6-8, 2018. YLA is a mock legislative session where high school students voice their opinions and vote on issues concerning local, state and national government. NC Community Development Initiative Youth Leadership Program:
Application period begins in March. This is a five-week, paid internship in the nonprofit sector for rising seniors. The application period and materials for the program are available in March. Interns have completed projects such as coordinating a community health fair, assisting with creating a business plan, creating youth programs for children, building community gardens, developing community outreach campaigns and assisting with the documentation of the organization’s work in the community (via photos, video, testimonials, reports, etc.). NC State University Communication Summer Camp:

Communication Summer Camp (COM Camp) introduces rising high school juniors and seniors, to college-level instruction in presentation speaking, media production, and broadcast techniques. This is an intensive five-day workshop designed for rising junior and senior high school students interested in learning about television production-behind, and in front of, the camera. College instructors will provide individual training to a limited class of 20 students in a broadcast-quality studio on the NCSU campus. Ninth and tenth graders are invited to attend a week-long day camp and eleventh and twelfth grade students can attend a week-long residential camp. NC State University Shelton Challenge:
Sign up 30 days before the start of each session. This is a six-day summer experience through NC State University for rising 9th-12th graders with a minimum GPA of 3.0 who are motivated to learn how to lead others. UNC Catalyst Conference:

A select group of 100 high school students from North Carolina will be given the opportunity to stay at UNC Chapel Hill for a weekend where they will explore social justice issues affecting both America and the larger world. Youth Legislative Assembly:
The YLA is scheduled for April 6-8, 2018. YLA is a mock legislative session where high school students voice their opinions and vote on issues concerning local, state and national government.
